When the London Dungeon Swapped Its Loo Rolls for Political Party Poo Paper

Joseph Dickinson

The London Dungeon is famous for being dark, twisted, and brilliantly irreverent. So when a General Election rolled around in December 2019, they didn't just put up a few posters or hand out leaflets. They did something far more fitting. They changed every toilet roll in the building. Welcome to Political Party Poo Paper. And yes, we made it. When one of London's most iconic attractions wants custom printed toilet paper for a political stunt, you don't say no. You say how many rolls. What Was the Idea? With the country drowning in manifestos, campaign promises, and political noise, the London Dungeon decided to give their guests a way to have the final word. Literally. For a limited run in the lead up to the 2019 General Election, every toilet in the attraction was stocked with custom printed toilet paper featuring lines from the Conservative, Labour, and Liberal Democrat manifestos, along with the faces of each party leader. Guests could read up on policy while they were in there, or, if they'd heard enough, they could do what most of the country probably wanted to do with those manifestos anyway. It was cheeky, it was perfectly on brand for the Dungeon, and it got people talking. How We Made It Happen This wasn't just a funny concept. It was a real production job with a tight turnaround. The rolls had to be designed, printed, and delivered in time for a very specific window: 11th to 15th December 2019, right before the nation headed to the polls. That meant we had to move fast without cutting corners. Custom artwork for each party. Every roll needed to feature recognisable leader imagery alongside actual manifesto quotes. The designs had to be clear, readable, and funny enough to land the joke the moment someone spotted them. Print quality that held up. Novelty toilet paper still needs to work as toilet paper. The ink had to be safe, the print had to be crisp, and the paper itself had to be soft enough that people would actually use it. Nobody wants a political statement that falls apart in their hands. Well, not literally anyway. Volume and speed. The London Dungeon welcomes thousands of visitors. We needed enough stock to keep the toilets loaded for the full run, which meant producing at scale and delivering on a deadline that left zero room for delays. Why It Worked So Well There's something brilliant about taking a national conversation that everyone is tired of and turning it into a physical, tangible joke. Political toilet paper isn't a new idea, but the way the London Dungeon used it was spot on. It fit perfectly with their brand: dark humour, a bit of rebellion, and never taking things too seriously. Guests loved it. It became one of those moments people photographed, shared online, and told their friends about. The kind of marketing you can't buy, all sparked by something you'd normally never think twice about. Sometimes the best way to make a statement is with the thing people least expect. In this case, it was a toilet roll. What This Says About Custom Toilet Paper Projects like this are exactly why we do what we do. A toilet roll is just a toilet roll until someone has an idea. Then it becomes a campaign, a conversation starter, a viral moment. The London Dungeon understood that. They didn't need a billboard or a TV ad. They needed something their guests would interact with, laugh about, and remember. And they found it in the last place most people would think to look. Whether it's a political stunt, a branded giveaway, an event piece, or just something brilliantly daft, we can make it happen. If you've got an idea, no matter how weird, we'd love to hear it.
